Club Members,

Minnesota Vikings Team News:

There’s not a lot of team news this time of year and that’s good news. The Vikings have stayed out of the news which can only tell us that our team is poised and in control – both football wise and personally. This creates a real good feeling – I believe this team will be more than ready come training camp.

Brett is throwing again – checking out his body, making sure he can last another season. He hasn’t said one way or the other – this just means if his body is sound, he’ll be back. Everything seems to be going well and I hope to see Brett in the 3rd pre-season game of the year – first home pre-season game.

Brad Childress went to Afghanistan this year and somehow the military was able to get his son transferred to where Brad was going to be so they could see each other. This says a lot for the Marine Corp as it does for Brad to support our troops. Everyone here deserves kudos.

Club News:

I’m still missing a couple of tickets to place the order with the 49ers for the pre-season game on August 22nd. Please get your money in so we can reserve the best available seats. – Thanks.

We’ll be staying at the Grosvenor Hotel while in San Francisco. The Bakersfield club will be staying there also – this will make it easier to get a car or van full of folks to travel together for tailgating purposes. The Hotel will have a service that will drive you to and from the game for $20.00 and has a shuttle service to the International airport – you can fly to San Francisco and not need to rent a car. I’ve attached a couple of flyers to this email for your review – all contact information is on the flyers.

We have a group rate with the Grosvenor – single or double occupancy is $79.00 and triple or quad occupancy is $89.00. Please let the desk know you are with our club – SCVC. The rates will be different if you don’t mention SCVC at time of reservation. Please reserve your room by July 21st – after that date we can’t guarantee you a room, goes back to first come – first served.

And finally to conclude our 49ers game discussion – the early word is, tailgating in Section V. If this changes – I’ll let you know, but for now, it’s Section V. Everyone have a good time.

Training camp dates are set and we’ll be visiting camp on August 9th and August 10th – a Monday and Tuesday. We’ll also be touring Winter Park and having our dinner. These dates will either be held on Wednesday August 11th or Thursday August 12th. We’ll have these dates determined early next week – its vacation season and we need all parties to agree.

To be open with all of you – I reserved the room for our dinner on Thursday August 12th, prior to the release of the training camp schedule. I’m not sure I could move this to Wednesday or if I would want too. It’s a little easier getting Viking guests on a Thursday – it’s an easier night out if they have work or have commitments during the week. So – what I’m saying is, for planning purposes we will be at camp on Monday and Tuesday, but if you’re flying in (as I am) plan on a Thursday night event. I’m still hoping to get the Winter Park tour and the dinner on the same day for those that are commuting to the Twin Cities for our events.

In Mankato we’ll be staying at the Day’s Inn in again. The rooms are $60.00 a night and mention SCVC when you reserve the room. The Day’s Inn phone number is: (507) 387-3332 and their address is: 1285 Range Street, Mankato, MN 56001. Please reserve your room by August 1st – after that it’s first come - first serve.

I also will start to need firm commitments from everyone attending any or all of our events. With regard to the Minnesota Vikings Training Camp I will need the full names of each person attending so I can arrange field passes. I will also need to know which days you plan on attending camp. I will be sending out information on where we’ll be meeting and what times to every individual that signs-up for one of our events. For those that have attended in the past we’ll be following similar plans to what was done in the past. For the first time visitors – you’re in for a real treat.

I’m sure I missed something – so if you have any questions please email or call me, I’ll be happy to explain this to each and every one of you. These are some of our best events each year and I can’t explain how wonderful these events are, but I’ll try if you have the time.

Don’t be afraid to check out the Vikings website – a lot of camp information can be found there also.
